Greenville is the sixth largest city in the state of South Carolina. Located in the rolling foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, the area was once a part of the Cherokee Nation.
Beginning in the 1970s, a downtown revitalization project was implemented to enhance the beauty and livability of Greenville. Streets were redesigned to be more people-friendly, and tree-filled parks and plazas were created. In the 1980s, Greenville implemented a downtown master plan that included new office space, several large hotels, a vibrant arts center, upscale retail establishments and more – all while preserving its most historic buildings and districts. National Trust for Historic Preservation awarded Greenville with the Great American Main Street Award in 2003 and 2009. Since then the city has been featured in numerous publications, including Southern Living Magazine and the U.S. Airways Magazine.
Greenville offers many activities and attractions. The city regularly hosts major concerts and touring theater companies. The Greenville County Museum of Art, which specializes in American art, is home to collections of work by Andrew Wyeth and Jasper Johns, Andy Warhol and Georgia O'Keeffe. And don’t miss Southern Exposure, an annual three day event that features domestic and international wine tastings, celebrity chefs, master sommeliers, and national recording artists.
