Operations Leader in Development (OLID)

OLIDs rotate in departments throughout our warehouses with the goal of pursuing a career within the warehouse in a leadership capacity. The duration of each OLID rotation is anywhere from 1-7 weeks.

The Operations Leader in Development Program vision is to provide an executive training program for recent college graduates interested in pursuing careers in supply chain, transportation, facilities, and operations leadership.

The program will begin with a curriculum designed to teach the OLID about both traditional and state of the art supply chain logistics. OLIDs will learn day to day operations and LEAN Management techniques through on the job exposure. In addition to spending time on the warehouse floor, OLIDs will gain experience with budgeting and planning operations. They will learn how to best leverage their workforce in order to meet the demands of the customer and will be exposed to both union and non-union workforces. In the first year OLIDs will have daily responsibilities and will also be assigned to project teams to foster cross functional understanding and development. Some sample projects might be re-slotting a building to minimize selector travel time while improving the pick path density, analyzing buying patterns to determine ideal item purchasing quantities, or working with a manufacturer to optimize item packaging for selection in an automated facility.

Members of the OLID program should expect to move through various functions that may include: warehouse, transportation, maintenance, facilities planning & automation and supply chain innovation. As a member of the OLID team you must be prepared to travel, to work long and non-traditional hours and to work in a variety of facilities. We have locations across the US and at any time you may be expected to travel to any one of our buildings. The career path for an OLID can take many directions. The most likely path would follow an operations path which could ultimately lead to facility or functional General Manager, Regional Vice President or Director of a particular function.

As a member of the OLID team you will be expected to learn, to contribute and will be held accountable for your own development as well as the development and the progress of your team.

" If you are a person who likes to challenge and push themselves, then the OLID program at C&S is for you. The curriculum is fast paced, very challenging, and extremely rewarding. I have gained a wealth of knowledge from a wide variety of departments, and have had the privilege of working with a very diverse group of people who have been nothing but supportive. The experiences that I have had over the past 5 months have helped me to not only grow as a person, but also as a young professional. I plan on utilizing everything that I have learned and experienced to further the success of the company and to build a successful career here at C&S.
